2010 Winter Season

In the 2010 ERT Senior Winter Season we had two teams competing. Open Sets 3 & Open Sets 7.

Congratulations to Open Sets 7 who won the Grand-Final comfortably defeating Canterbury.

 

2009/2010 Summer Season

 

All three of our 2009/2010 Senior Saturday summer teams qualified for the finals. BRTA Mens Singles/Doubles 3 and ERT Open Sets 8 went on to win their Grand-Finals in convincing fashion. Congratulations to the following team members on another glorious finals campaign:

BRTA Mens Singles/Doubles 3: Dom Alberico (Capt.), Greg Armstrong, Stan Innes, Stephen Swann.

ERT Open Sets 8: George Kunti (Capt.), Betty Brent, Simon Davis, Adrian Dolman, Stuart Highton, Andrew Pitts.

2009 Winter Season

Two of our three teams qualified for the finals with both Open Sets 9 & 12 going on to win the premiership. Results were as follows:

Open Sets 9 - PREMIERS: As with most senior teams in recent years this team relied on several emergency players during the season and was superbly managed by George Kunti. The team finished 2^nd and won their SF at home against Canterbury. After 4 sets the match was tied at 2 sets all and Blackburn was down by 4 games. Our team on the day of George Kunti, Betty Brent, Andrew Pitts & Stuart Highton steadied to win the last two sets 8/6, 8/6 and win the SF 4/39 to 2/39!! The GF was to be played away at Steels Creek who made the GF after the 4^th team forfeited. On the day our team was George Kunti, Andrew Pitts, Adrian Dolman & Stuart Highton. Betty Brent was there to urge her team on together with Club stalwart Ken Baird who, at age 81, rode his motor-bike all the way to Steels Creek! Our team had two very close matches with Steels Creek during the season and playing on synthetic grass courts on a hot & windy afternoon was always going to be a challenge. After the first 4 sets it was over and our team had won the premiership!! The final result was 4/43 to 2/37. Well done to all players including team member Ben Liu who was unavailable for the finals and to our New Members Adrian Dolman and Simon Davis for being willing to play as emergencies during the season.

Open Sets 12 - PREMIERS: Our Open Sets 12 team was made up of recent Junior players and two parents who helped out during the season. It was great to see some former juniors come back to play senior tennis and well done to team captain, Laura Fallon for organising this team. The team finished 4^th and defeated the top team away at Manchester Heights with Victor, Michael & Helen Fallon playing together with Tessa Duthie. Victor won two 8/0 sets on the day and the team won 4/40 to 2/24. In the GF the team again played away against Templestowe Park Green with Victor & Michael Fallon playing together with Nick Scott & Jessica Clarke. After 4 sets the match was tied at 2 sets all with Blackburn behind by 5 games. The team stormed back to take the last two sets and whilst down on games they won the match on sets 4/39 to 2/40!! Well done team and hopefully you’ll be back next winter if commitments allow!!

 

2008/2009 Summer Season

In the 2008/2009 Summer Season we had two Open Sets teams entered in the ERT Saturday pm competition and also one team in the BRTA Mens Singles/Doubles competition. We also had one team entered in the ERT Sunday pm Singles/Doubles competition.  All 3 Saturday teams qualified for the semi-finals with our “undefeated” BRTA men’s team going on to make the Grand-Final, only to lose a heartbreaker in a tie-break after 6 rubbers of play! 

2008 Winter Season

In the 2008 ERT Senior Winter Season both our teams qualified for the Grand-Final. Open Sets 7 were Premiers playing at home whilst Open Sets 2 struggled away at Lilydale on synthetic grass and were runners-up.

Our three Senior ERT summer season teams all reached the finals with the two Saturday teams both reaching the Grand-Final. On an extremely hot, humid and unpleasant afternoon for tennis our Opens Sets 4 team came out winners after a close match. After six 8 game sets both teams were locked at 3 sets all with games tied. All players had a rest with the temperature over 36deg Celsius and then four very tired players went out to play the extra match deciding set.

In a glorious display the Blackburn veterans (Wal Reddington & Grant Harslett!!) defeated two youngsters 6/3 – Congratulations to all players and bad-luck to our Opens Sets 9 team who faced a strong Templestowe Park team in their Grand-Final and finished runners-up.

In the 2007 ERT Winter season we had two teams competing and both were successful in winning the premiership.
