In the recently completed 2016/2016 Eastern Region Tennis Junior Summer Season we had 15 teams competing. Nine teams qualified for the finals. Saturday BSD13 won their rain interrupted grand-final on a Sunday afternoon. Our Sunday BSD8 team finished 4th at the end of the home/away season and also went on to win the premiership.
Congratulations to all players for representing our Club well throughout the season. Well done also to all our summer season junior team captains (and parents!) for organising their teams well throughout the season.
The trees running along our northern boundary, between the courts and the railway line were removed recently as part of the railway crossing removal project. The main tree lopping occurred on the morning of the Summer Season Junior Semi-finals which certainly created quite a buzz....for want of a better word!! As per the pictures the elm trees replaced cypress trees which were removed 21 years ago due to safety concerns. At the time the Club disagreed with the council with regard to the choice of replacement trees - i.e. the elm trees dropped their leaves ~7 times per year which created quite a lot of court maintenance issues for us, particularly during the wetter months. Hopefully as the railway crossing removal works progress we may end up with a more suitable planting along our northern boundary.
